Mobile technology has taken a language-specific flavour; and in time for the festive season. Now, SMS in the language of your choice – Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Oriya, Punjabi or Assamese.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited on Friday became the first service provider in the country to launch multi-lingual short messaging service, with the State’s customers having the honour of inaugurating the facility.
The service is facilitated with technical support from City-based Geneva Software Technologies Limited. Geneva Messaging Service (GMS), as it is called, is currently available for BSNL customers with Java MIDP 2.0 compatible handsets. GMS can be activated by downloading the Language Specific Application (LSA) on the handset.
This would require a GPRS enabled handset, Bluetooth, IR or cable facility. However, LSA does not require any of the above features on the senders’ or receivers’ handset. |
