On a much broader landscape, the Natural Disaster Information System (NDIS) is Geneva's response to the nation's need for Disaster Management and Information Dissemination. It forms the link between the source of a disaster alert and information dissemination to the public in the affected region. Disaster alerts from the Indian Meteorological Department are picked up by Geneva's server in Bangalore, translated into 11 Indian languages and sent out to cellphones in the local language based on the location.
